Well I got my motor running real well now. My 3speed tranny seems to have some real problems.....

Cant get the shifter to move from side to side. Only voes front to back,
The input pully turns but is rougn.

Should the brake hub turn with the rear axles?

Does anyone have a tranny that I could just switch with?

They aren't to bad to take apart.....There are some how to's out there and seals/bearing are all available. The brake shaft does turn with the axle....
I did one about 4 years ago.....trickiest part is not losing the little balls and spring in the shifter....and then replacing them....there is a trick to it.

I found a tranny donor today. Nice guy even delivered it to my garage and put it on the lift for me.
I have already got it off the frame and cleaned up some

can i call first dibs on the steering wheel and all the lift hardware???? :dance2
sweet find on the donor, now after the project is done you can always open up the old trans
and see what makes it go round and round

I am about ready to install my new to me tranny in my 857. Here's my question.....

The bolt in the top of the tranny that holds the shifter in place has no head of it. There is a locking nut on it and it was loose and screwed way out. How tight should I screw it in before locking it in? Should it have a bolt head on it? thanks for help, Bobster

1st there should be no head, the set up you are seeing is a: hex head set screw (dog-headed) & jam nut.
the screw is not bottomed out it should be loose with the jam nut locking it in place.
the gear shift has a ball welded to where it rests in the trans, in that ball a drilled hole accepts the dog-headed point of the Allen screw.
this is what keeps the shifter from being able to be pulled out,(up) the ball is what it floats on that allows the gears to to shifted.
the unthreaded part of the screw is the only part of the screw that should come in contact with the ball.
its was more of a feel thing when i did mine them anything.
i looked in my few manuals could not find the exact wheel horse procedure for this. someone else may have it

Nice John. :goodpost

The Allen wrench should be 1/8" if I remember right. :)
