Tiller guts

For those who may be looking inside a tiller.....
Looks pretty straight forward.....I needed to put some seals in....takes 2 each side for the main drive and 1 for the input.....



this collar is held in place by a pin....



parts all laid out......



Seals are CR 12330 (4) and CR 7410 (1) I believe.....well pretty sure....at least that is what I have ordered....

This tiller is a 07-36TL03, it was built from 1984-1989. The gears in this tiller are factory machine welded and don't come off.

I have a bearing list also...but these bearings looked in such fine shape I'm not replacing them.....one thing worth mentioning....the main shaft where the pins hold the tine assembly get cratered a little and need ground a bit for the case to come off easily. One tine is broken...gonna try and make one then weld it in place....or maybe purchase a D series tine and weld it on....those can still be bought. Was also thinking about using a mower blade...not sure if they can be torched and bent or not....any ideas on that?

You might be able to find an old walk behind cheap and get some donor tines.

Maybe....dunno......a D series tine costs about 12 bucks.....they might match up pretty good also...probably have to buy 2 though cause I get confused on whether it is a righty or lefty. I've read a couple forums where guys just make them out of 1/4 inch plate too....weld them on with a hard rod and let them sharpen themselves....guess they just heat and bend them little by little to get the shape right.

If you can get em for 12$ that is the way to go. Even buying left and right you may need the other in the future.

They really are simple ... I'll need to put a chain in mine this winter.

Be sure when you put the seals in, mine were in different directions ... one kept oil in, one kept dirt out ... not sure if that's factory or if the p/o did that...they were leaking so....might not be so good...I did put put them back like that, and the the new seals don't leak. However I have a pulley shaft seal leaking now...
