Tips for tuning a techy carb? was created by AJ WH Ranger
Ok guys I need your expertise again.
I managed to get a techy running. :bliss
But the carb definitely needs to be tuned. the information that I was able to find is vague at best. So if anyone has any tips or tricks please let me know.
And please go into details because remember your talking to a humidification engineer. So talking to me like I'm ignorant to the subject is perfect. ex: "the little screw with a spring on the left side is your ________ adjustment screw". That is perfectly fine for me and would be very beneficial.
Thanks in advanced guys.
Oh yeah it would help to let you know what engine I'm working with here. It is a 6 hp techy. I believe the tag reads HH60.

Been meaning to take a pic of one and draw some arrows all day but it hasn't happened yet.
One on the side with a spring is air, one at the bottom of the bowl is fuel. The fuel is very touchy and when you get it right you'll know it, easiest way to adjust any carb is shoot for the highest idle from each adjustment.

Well without ever hearing a Techy run, I think I got it close.
When I put the tractor in gear is sounds as if the engine is going to stall out under the load of the tranny. I'm afraid if I put the deck back on it, its not going to be able to handle the load of the deck as well.
Any thoughts?

Does the transmission spin freely? Is it easy to push?

AJ I'm no techy pro, but have you checked the governor linkage yet? That could cause stalling issues under load. Just a thought, good luck.

Yup. Spins free.
I think I might just have an old tired Techy. Is that even possible?

Good point never checked. Wouldn't I have issues with acceleration as well though? (really I have no idea, I'm guessing here )
I would have no idea how to check. I will learn one day though. I would imagine its decent to the point were it will run and accelerate. :happy1

If the governor is working properly it should try to maintain RPM's under load. Watch the throttle linkage to the carb and see if it moves on it's own when a load is applied.
