Philips K321 rebuild was created by Geno
Rebuilding this one for a good friend from Owensboro. It's been here awhile so I'll start the story here lol. Philip bought this tractor with a blown engine, I'll get pics of the tractor in here when I put the motor back on it, it's a really nice C-145. :)

Philip ordered a .010 over block on e-bay, it was sorta .010. It was "bored" with a standard hone and someone made a real mess. Take a look at the ring groove at the bottom and the hone marks taken out by the piston skirt all the way to the bottom from how tight this thing was, I bet it didn't have much power especially when it warmed up. :tounge2

Now on to the engine block. I talked to a Lisle Corp tech the other day about this fancy hone they had. It is a machine type hone with 5" stones and wipers. It even has a micrometer on the top of it to set material removal with. It was such a mess that it couldn't be bored to .010 with a conventional boring bar, it would have to go .020. Lisle said this hone would remove taper and out of round and it sure does. We were looking to keep this at a true .010 so there is room for another rebuild in the future if need be. These blocks are hard enough to find now let alone years from now.

1st pic is what the hone revealed about what was really going on. Now everyone can see what a regular hone really does to a cylinder even when it looks pretty good to the eye. It was shocking to me as well. :) the next pics after the 1st are pics taken during the process. These pics are all using 80 grit stones.

Nice project - keep the pictures coming.

I like that hone. I've only used the cheapies for glaze breaking. That hone looks serious.

I'm thinking of rebuilding a 20HP Kohler V-Twin that was burning oil. That hone might work wonders.

Thanks Kurt. That hone will be my new go to tool with the 180 stones on it to do a quick cylinder check before getting out the bore gauge to see sorta where it's at. :thumb1

Didn't do much today, just got it all cleaned up and ready to put together Monday. It's sitting on a surgical towel ready to go lol. :rolling
