The property across the street was a beautiful restored house and fairly new 3 car garage this morning.  I went over there a lot while the peeps that bought it about 20 years ago stripped the insides and added several bathrooms, up and downstairs heat pumps and all the ductwork, plumbing, insulation, drywall, trim, etc, all new inside and super nice.  They also added a big great room / kitchen on the back right with nice cabinets, granite counter tops, etc.

Just so happens Dollar General bought it.  There's one 5 miles away from me in each direction but their plan is to have one every 5 miles so that was the spot.  They brought in a big track hoe last Sat and heard them fire it up this morning.  I sat outside this morning on the bird bath enjoying the weather and taking some pics for a few hours to watch what happened next.

I thought you guys may be interested to see what can be done with one of these in just 2 hours.  Just a little over 2 hours from start to finish and done by lunch time today.  House, garage and all in a neat little pile.  i took quite a few pics so they will be broken up over a few posts.

They switched the bucket to a grappling setup and took the house away in semi dump trucks, 2 days and it was all gone minus the stone, concrete, etc that I think they may use for fill in the low spot.  They also used it to break the trees up and pull them out of the ground.  Next they brought in a big dozer and a JD 4wd tractor with a bucket on it.  I think they will take the hill down to street level but I'm not sure, we'll see...  They didn't work today but it will be interesting to see what all they get done next week.  They got a lot done in just 4 days.

As of yesterday I think they've hauled away most of what was there and the big dozer is out and working.  Looks like they pushed all the fences out, put some kind of black plastic barrier around what they're going to work on and are piling up topsoil.  They lit the trees on fire this morning.

    Sounds about right John.

They spent most of today cleaning up some more.  The trees are burned up and they have things looking pretty nice.  I think they're down to the solid rock like in front of my place, I wouldn't think they would build on a hill but we'll see...

It's gonna cool down for a few days, highs around 60 and lows at 32 so anti-cold me is just hiding out in the shop and playing with tractors.

Looks like they finally hit the rock ledge today.  They're lucky it's not as high as on my side of the highway.

Looks like they're going down to street level.  I'm glad they are, it will make for a nicer view for me to be able to see all of the nice scenery over the building.  All of the land as far as the eye can see behind the 2 houses on the other road is what I grew up working on that was all a part of dad's farm.

They brought in another person and another trackhoe so things are moving faster now.  I still think it will take them most of next week to get all of that solid rock out.  Looks like they are piling it up now to haul away, they have all the fill they need for the rest of the site.
